Your Protein Supplement is TOXIC

toxic metals 300x130 Your Protein Supplement is TOXICSo we’ve all heard of Consumer Reports, right?  They test a whole bunch of things ranging from electronics and coffee makers to cars and trucks.  Well, recently they tested 15 different protein supplements for different types of metals and VERY disturbingly found that quite a few commercial protein supplements contain high levels of TOXIC metals!

Shocker, a commercial company is putting something unhealthy into a product we consume.  Believe it or not, they found some of these supplements contain LEAD, ARSENIC and even MERCURY!!!  So, which ones fared the worst? …

  • EAS MyoPlex Ready to Drink Original Rich Dark Chocolate: The report found that 3 servings daily (which is what is “suggested”) contains an excess of the United States Pharmacopoeia’s (USP) limit for both Arsenic and Cadmium
  • Muscle Milk Chocolate and Muscle Milk Vanilla Powder: Both of these powders were found to be in excess of the USP’s limit for Lead icon sad Your Protein Supplement is TOXIC

While these weren’t the only 2 supplements to score poorly in the Consumer Reports’ independent study, they definitely fared the worst.  If your first reaction to this is, “So what … It’s just a little metal” then you should probably just empty out the few remaining rocks you have rattling around in your head.  Consuming high levels of lead, arsenic and/or mercury can be lethal.

You first question should be, “how do they get away with putting high levels of toxic metal into the supplements?”  The simple answer to this is that supplements are a multi-billion dollar industry that is unregulated.  Think back to the people who were dying because they were ingesting too much ephedra.  Companies are allowed to create, market and sell their product without it being tested independently.  It’s a fact that in most cases, the ingredients that are listed on the label of a supplement RARELY match up with the ingredients that are in the actual product.  It’s been tested and proved several times.

chocolate milk Your Protein Supplement is TOXICSo what is a healthy alternative to get your daily dose of protein?  There are some very reputable, safe companies that manufacture supplements that you can incorporate into your nutrition plan, but in all reality … You don’t need to take them!  It’s been proven over and over again that most Americans get the required daily intake of protein from their regular diet alone.

If you’re doing a lot of strength training and you’re looking to get some extra protein, add some more chicken, egg whites, yogurt … or hey, how about CHOCOLATE MILK?!?!  It’s got just the right mix of protein and carbs to ensure that the protein gets into your muscles ASAP.

And the best part of it is … You’ll never have to worry about finding lead, arsenic or mercury in your chocolate milk!
